I have read review after review concerning the service and installation issues customers have experienced after having their windows and doors replaced.  Based on what people have commented online, I have come to the conclusion that the difference between a proper installation  and an installation gone wrong is paying attention to the small details involved in the installation process.

Loewen Windows

Loewen windows come in various types: casement, double hung, custom and specialty, bow and bay, awning, picture, access, and transom. Loewen casement windows come in four styles: Traditional, Mission, French Chateau, and Push Out. They are also made of Douglas Fir interior, sash locks, insect screens, insulated glazing, aluminum cladding, and so on.

Double hung windows come with simulated divided lites (SDL), traditional sash lifts, authentic rail construction, and other materials. Awning windows come with a hinged wood screen, insect screen, and laminated sash to lock out the weather. Picture windows are made out of Douglas Fir and come with low-insulated glazing, authentic rail construction, galvanized metal nail fin, picture glazing stop, 35 mm jamb, and so on. Access windows are made of custodial lock, ventilation capacity with a 180-degree rotation capability, and a massive weatherstripping system. All of the windows listed are made of Douglas Fir and come with insect screens and locks of some kind. They are made with great insulation to shut out the weather and other necessities for home life.

The page will take you to the “Dealer Locator” where you can type in a zip code to find the Loewen dealers in your area. If you live in Beverly Hills and want to know which dealers there sell Loewen windows, you would type in “90210” in the zip code box and click “locate dealers” to the right of the box. You will then arrive at a list of Loewen dealers in your area. For Beverly Hills, there are two Loewen dealers, 1) Loewen Window Center of Los Angeles and 2) One-Stop Windows and Doors. If you want to find Loewen dealers closest to the state of North Carolina, for example, you may type in the area code “27563.” Once you do, you will discover that there are three dealers close to the NC zip code: 1) Morris Millwork, LLC (Harrisburg, NC), 2) Advantage Window and Door, LLC (Kilmarnock, VA), and 3) Loewen Window Center of Charlottesville (Charlottesville, VA). When you find a number of Loewen centers in your area, visit their sites online or visit the stores in-person to see their prices.

The Loewen windows price runs around $700-$1000 for each double-hung window. While this may seem expensive, Loewen prices are cheaper than luxury brands such as Andersen and Pella. They are compared to Marvin windows in terms of their prices and materials. Most Loewen windows cost around $1000, not counting the price of labor. While the Loewen price has certainly been deemed steep but worthwhile, the service has not been as fortunate. Loewen windows reviews have labeled the windows company as bad with repairs. Their representatives are often unresponsive and care more about sales rather than people. In 2008, Dean, a Loewen customer, posted that, while he liked his windows and the quality materials used to make them, he did not like the fact that Loewen dealers can quickly come and go. The fact that Loewen dealers can disappear so fast was a downside to the company’s work. Justin, a contractor, wrote in 2002 that Loewen windows have to be ordered at least 5-6 weeks in advance of the delivery time.

There seems to be some discussion about Loewen windows problems as well. According to one customer, she and her husband installed the windows one day and the paint started peeling off the windows when she and her husband took the tape off (the day after the paint job). They also bought doors from the company that had paint leaking from them. Since they installed their own doors and windows, Loewen refused to come out and do anything to provide new doors and windows. The only way the company would help is if the couple re-installed their doors and windows and then send for the representative to verify their doors and windows were leaking. The customer recommended Greenbuilders.com as a place to go to find other Loewen customer complaints.

Cindy, another customer, reports that she bought casement windows from Loewen. The casement window cranking gears busted on the windows she and her husband open (they rarely open their windows). To fix them will cost $147 for each cranking gear. She believes that the repair money is a ripoff and that the windows are defective, too.

In another case, a woman ordered large Loewen windows that do not close properly. Another woman writes that her mother’s double-hung windows have the same problem. She had to hire another contractor to come in and fix them. A contractor testified that he had a problem with Loewen slider windows, and another person had to get legal help to get their money refunded for windows that Loewen refused to do anything about. Another customer complained that the windowsills of Loewen windows are problematic because they have steel at the top and sides of the windows but fiberglass at the bottom. The steel and fiberglass overlap, making it hard to keep the fiberglass sills down. Many former Loewen customers would agree that weathershield windows may prove a nicer alternative.

Loewen claims to provide luxury windows that are worth the $700-$1000 that you pay. There are many that agree about the company and their quality, while others disagree and have had some hard experiences with the company. The best way to have a good relationship with Loewen is to buy your windows from them and allow their workmen to install the windows. Trying to “DYI” (do it yourself) is always a tricky business and could end up costing you financially in the long run. If you do not know how install Loewen windows on your own, pay the money to allow someone to do it right.
